Arlene Rice – Founder
Arlene Rice lives in Louisville, Kentucky where she is Founder of the Gabriel Project 930, an outreach to those with a substance use disorder, their families, and her community.
Her youngest son, Gabriel, overdosed in a sober house from a combination of alcohol and heroin on April 8, 2013, and died four days later on April 12, 2013.
Her mission is to network with other organizations, promote awareness, provide education, and offer resources and interventions to parents and others who have a loved one struggling with substance use.
As a community advocate, she represents Jefferson County as the Family Liaison for Casey’s Law. This law allows parents, relatives, and/or friends to petition the court for treatment on behalf of the person who is substance abuse impaired.
Besides being a voice in her community, she is a graduate of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky where she earned her Master of Divinity Degree in Christian Education with a concentration in Women’s Leadership.
Arlene served as the Women’s Ministry Institute Consultant for Southern Seminary through the Women’s Leadership Program from 2007-2011. At the undergraduate college of Southern Seminary, Boyce College, she served as Adjunct Instructor for Women’s Studies.
Arlene has been a registered nurse for over thirty-three years, many of those years spent as an open heart cardiovascular recovery nurse, also serving as an Advanced Cardiac & Basic Life Support Instructor. At Brown Mackie College-Louisville she taught Anatomy & Physiology to nursing & ancillary students.
Arlene’s accomplishments include being the author of a newly published book: “Parent of An Adult Addict: Hope for the Broken Road“ as well as being a contributing author to two books: The Hidden Person of the Heart: Discovering What God says About and to Women Through the Scriptures, by Janet Wicker, and Women at Southern: A Walk Through Psalms, by Jaye Martin.
She has been married to Keith Rice for forty-two years, has four grown children, and is Mimi to Joshua, Caleb, Emily, and Shaylynn
